Adults
In my art therapy sessions, I typically start by building a safe and supportive environment that encourages self-expression and creative exploration. I may ask clients to select art materials and techniques that they feel comfortable with and use them to create artwork that reflects their inner world.
Through the creative process, clients can gain insight into their emotions and behaviours, and explore different ways of coping with challenges and stressors. Art therapy can help increase self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-acceptance, and develop new skills and perspectives for approaching life's challenges.
I also incorporate other therapeutic techniques and interventions, such as guided meditation, mindfulness practices, and cognitive-behavioral strategies, to enhance the therapeutic process.
"Art making is not about the production of art; it is about the cultivation of awareness, insight, and understanding through the process of creative expression." - Cathy A. Malchiodi
